Butterflies

Over 1,300 species of butterfly have been recorded in the Indian sub-continent and the island of Sri Lanka has 23 endemic species, the largest of these is the Ceylon Birdwing.

The evergreen  forests of: the Western Ghats in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra in the south of the peninsula; and Sikkim, West Bengal and Assam in north-east India have the greatest number of species including; the Spotted Blue Crow, the Glassy Tiger and the Himalayan Sergeant.

We can take you walking, with an expert local guide, on the winding paths of a tea garden in Darjeeling, in the lush green hills of Kerala and Sri Lanka, or through the dappled woods of Sikkim – all delightful experiences enhanced by the colour and form of these beautiful insects.
